Why we care - a message from a family

About Social Care

Every day we receive feedback from our service users' families telling us how important our carers’ support has been in the welfare and quality of life of their loved one. Caring is after all, what we do.

But we couldn’t help but be moved when we received this wonderful message from a service user’s family member after their gran had sadly passed away. It meant so much to our care team. Carers often feel that the person they are caring for becomes like family and it was truly heartwarming to hear Cameron describe our carers as being part of his family for a while. Many thanks to Cameron for taking the time to tell us the difference that our carers made as Mary reached the end of her life…

Today, my beautiful gran, Mary, passed away peacefully at 3pm, surrounded by her loved ones. It’s incredibly difficult to come to terms with losing her, especially after watching her live with dementia for the past few years. While it’s heartbreaking, I take comfort in knowing she is now at peace.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the incredible carers from Cera, especially Nicole and Val, who not only looked after my gran with such care and compassion but also looked out for my papa, John, through this incredibly difficult time.

Nicole, your kindness and dedication went far beyond what anyone could expect. The fact that you came in this afternoon while my gran was approaching the end of her life speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. Your thoughtfulness and presence brought so much comfort to our family in those final moments.

Val, your care and thoughtfulness shone through as well. A few weeks ago, when my gran wasn’t feeling well, you took the time to check on her and make sure she was okay. It’s these small but meaningful gestures that showed how much you truly cared—not just for my gran, but for all of us.

What makes your support so extraordinary is how you also looked out for my papa, John. You helped him navigate such a difficult journey, and your care gave us all so much reassurance, knowing he had someone to lean on when things were tough.

I could go on and on, but I honestly don’t know how to thank you enough. You’ve both gone above and beyond, not just as carers but as people who truly became a part of our family. Your compassion and love gave my gran dignity, comfort, and peace, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Nicole and Val, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully now, Gran. You were surrounded by so much love, and your memory will stay with us always.

Kind regards,

Cameron

“We are grateful to be appreciated, during their time of grief, to be acknowledged about the care we gave to Mary throughout the years and the support given to her husband, John. This makes the job very fulfilling during hard times and to know we are appreciated for our hard work.”
