Care is a career that will always be needed. No matter where you are in Essex there will be people in need of your compassionate care and support. The work you do isn’t only rewarding for you, but also lifesaving to others. You can help older and vulnerable people live comfortably and independently in their own homes in the communities you know best.

Essential values and requirements for a care job in Essex

Although a rewarding career in care doesn’t necessarily need experience, it does require a specific set of values and qualities.

  • Patience. The ability to remain calm and understanding, especially when supporting individuals who may need extra time or encouragement.
  • Hardworking. You need to commit to completing tasks to the best of your ability. Providing the highest standard of care, no matter the task.
  • Compassion and empathy. This is something we cannot teach. If you care for others and take the time to understand where they are coming from, you have the most important quality needed to work in a care role.
  • Excellent communication skills. You need to be able to actively listen, speak clearly and record information accurately to maintain the safety and comfort of the people you will be caring for.
  • No prior experience. Comprehensive training is provided for all our roles. Whether you have paid experience working as a carer, unpaid experience caring for a friend or family member, or no experience at all. We have roles to suit everyone and the support to ensure you feel confident delivering care.
  • Driving ability. In most areas a driving licence and car is required, although limited walker roles may be available in areas where we have a high concentration of clients.
  • Availability. You must be prepared to work alternate weekends, or at least one day every weekend, as care services are required seven days a week.
  • Legal right to work. All applicants must have and be able to provide evidence of the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Comfort with personal care. You must be comfortable providing full personal care to both male and female clients, including assistance with essential tasks like washing, showering, toileting, and dressing.
